My life has been changed forever through the challenges we met and conquered but more importantly the lifetime friends I made.
Rolling mountains adorned with generous green, colorful spring flowers blanketing the landscape, and steam rising up from the valley floor of the Great Smoky Mountains. Winding our way through North Carolina, Tennessee, Kentucky, and Virginia, we explore, twist and ride a goodly portion of southern Appalachia in our time together. Ride fabulously curvy roads during the day, then reminisce at night in boutique accommodations such as the Bolling Wilson Hotel (part of the Ascend Collection), the 1920s General Francis Marion Hotel, and spend a restful day relaxing at the 5-star Omni Homestead Resort. The Cherohala Skyway, the Tail of the Dragon, the Back of the Dragon, and the Blue Ridge Parkway are just a few of the racy and curvaceous roads we ride. Join us for ten magical days together riding with your newfound friends.<
Arrive at the Switzerland Inn, a Blue Ridge Parkway Resort (near Asheville, NC): Welcome Dinner
Welcome gathering and our first dinner together.
Second night at the Switzerland Inn
On our first day of riding together in Western North Carolina. Experience the sweeping curves and amazing scenery of the Diamondback (NC 226A), offering more than 190 steep, climbing curves in just 12 miles.
Overnight in Wytheville, VA
Today we head towards the beautiful small town of Wytheville, Virginia (pronounced WITH-vill) Founded in 1792 and named for the first signer of the Declaration of Independence for Virginia – George Wythe – this small southern community will charm you after a lovely day exploring along the Blue Ridge Parkway.
Overnight at the fabulous Omni Homestead Resort in Hot Springs, VA
Today we explore more of Virginia, our second, and last, day pondering the Blue Ridge Parkway. Stopping to take plenty of pictures and soak up the views, we hop on and off the Parkway as we like for coffees and local cakes, passing through Galax, Virginia. It’s a moderate pace today, until the guides take you on the little known and dearly loved lane-and-a-half twisty roads that are so small they barely show up on the map. We arrive at the stately Omni Homestead Resort in time to take tea on the front porch, then attend an exquisite dinner in the resort’s formal dining room.
Second Night at the fabulous Omni Homestead Resort in Hot Springs, VA
Choices, choices today. Take a falconry class, head out for a hike at the Cascades Gorge, go horseback riding, fly fishing, or swap to a different form of two wheels and take a Segway tour of the area. You can also sign up for a spa service or soak the day away poolside at the Omni Homestead Resort. There’s more fabulous riding around the resort, too, so you can split the day and do both! Head out with your newly made gal pals and ride to the Natural Bridge or scoot through the Shenandoah National Park. Stay out late and ride until the last bit of light if you want; dinner is on your own tonight.
Overnight in Marion, VA
Riding the two-lane twisties all day, Marion, Virginia is our destination tonight. Hailed as “America’s Coolest Hometown”, Marion is one of a few towns to be designated as both an official Virginia Main Street Community as well as a National Main Street Community. Tonight’s stay is at the fabulous General Francis Marion Hotel, built in the 1920’s. Walk around town and soak up the small town flavor of the Moonshine Capital of Virginia. We’ll follow the long and meandering Claytor Lake and skirting the George Washington and Jefferson National Forest.
Overnight in Fontana Dam, NC
Today is a three-state day. We leave Virginia, following the long and meandering Claytor Lake and skirting the George Washington and Jefferson National Forest. We find ourselves in Tennessee near the end of the day just in time to slay the Tail of the Dragon (Rt. 129) and pause in Deal’s Gap for a photo op and souvenirs before heading over to Fontana Dam (North Carolina) and our evening respite at the Historic Tapoco Lodge Resort.
Second night in Fontana Dam, NC
Today we ride one of Alisa’s favorite roads, the Cherohala Skyway. Ground pounders can make it a high mileage day and ride after riding the Cherohala circle around back to Tennessee and slay the Dragon again. Tonight we return to the Historic Tapoco Lodge Resort so we don’t have to pack up in the morning…simple get up, eat breakfast, and RIDE!
Last night on tour in Asheville, NC
On our last day of riding together, we once again seek out the small roads and give them our gusto and our grace. With a mid-day stop at the Wheels Through Time Motorcycle Museum, we conveniently end our tour in Asheville, where we’ll have our farewell dinner.
Breakfast – then Goodbye
We start the day with a great breakfast, then we all head home, remembering all the fabulous roads we’ve ridden, our newly formed friendships cemented on the tour, and the magnificent scenery of the awesome Appalachian region. [Little Switzerland is only 53 miles from Asheville, NC, the nearest airport and motorcycle rental depot.]
